The Motorola Surfboard SB5100 is one of the oldest of the Motorola Surfboard line still in extensive use. It incorporates DOCSIS 2.0, A-TDMA (Advanced Time Division Multiple Access) and S-CDMA (Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) technologies and provides extra upstream capacity - up to 3 times greater than DOCSIS 1.0 or 1.1 systems.
The SB5100 can be immediately deployed without service interruptions as it is interoperable as well as backward compatible with 1.0 and 1.1
The Motorola surfboard SB5100, as with all Motorola surfboard cable modems, provides excellent Internet access without the need for a telephone line, working through the cable TV network. A dedicated, standard cable TV channel is provided by the cable system plant, for the purposes of transferring multimedia and Internet services. The surfboard modem connects to this service and tunes to the specific channel to access the Internet and other available services; receiving digital information and passing it through USB or Ethernet connections, to the PC.
Consumers unanimously review this product with five-star ratings and resounding thumbs up, for its technological capabilities as well as the ease of connection and use.
A quick start guide and complete CD manual provides all the information necessary for installation, and the fact that it has both Ethernet and USB connections means that it can be hooked up to 2 different computers without the necessity for extra hardware.
There is a standby button incorporated which means the user can temporarily disconnect from the Internet and quickly reconnect. The compact presentation takes up very little desk or shelf space.
While maybe not the most stylish of modems, the Motorola surfboard SB5100 is certainly among the most reliable. Motorola not only brings a great reputation and certain reliability, but are also guaranteed to provide functional, dependable service. The entire Surfboard model range is guaranteed to be of the same excellent quality and dependability.
The Motorola Company is very well known and has a great global reputation and their Surfboard cable modems are frontrunners in the field. There are currently around 9 million homes worldwide using cable modems from Motorola, which carry limited warranty, guarantee of satisfaction and 24-hour technical support.
Motorola (formerly known as General Instrument) has led the cable Internet industry since its inception and its surfboard cable modems are exceptional.
The Motorola Surfboard SB5100 is just one example of this outstanding product and while there are newer models and fancier designs on the market, few can come close to the reliability and strength of service supplied.
